The constant weight battle! Enough to make me go bananas!

In the spirit of total candor, I'm going to share with you a ridiculous battle that I've engaged in my whole life. I know I'm not alone. It's the battle of the bulge. I quick look at my pictures on FB and I can see my weight going up and down over and over again. I literally can gain 50 pounds in one month! If I stick to my food plan 80 percent of the time and go out for 1 or 2 meals a week, or eat a bit of that creamy, cold stuff we all love, the fat comes on literally overnight. It's extremely discouraging and I don't mind telling you that I get quite upset looking at the pictures! I've lost 70 pounds 3 times and 150 pounds at one time, not to mention a 40 pound bounce that comes on after holidays and leaves after 7 months of hard work.

So here's the deal. The only way that I can lose weight and keep it off for any amount of time is with the plant based diet. Any other diet does not work for me. My fat cells are stoked to live and resistant to leave!

Maybe you have the same problem as I do. It's easy to just tell myself that I'm a middle aged woman and that I love and accept myself anyway, and that's all true. What trips me up all the time is worry about my health. We all know about diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and other ills that befall people who are obese. It feels unfair, and yet what can I do? I have a choice, I can accept my body size and quietly live in fear and dread about an untimely death, or I can continue to strive to eat in a manner that will bring me to health.

You may all have a plan that works for you. This is what works for me:

Plant Based diet - emphasis on vegetables

Intermittent fasting - eating only between 12PM and 6 PM

No gluten, dairy, sugar (even 1 piece of chocolate 1 day a week will kill weight loss)

      Yoga 3-5 times a week

Walking for 1 hour, 5 days a week

Although I have learned through the years to cultivate a strong will power, once in a while in a weak moment, usually on a cold, rainy, lonely day or at a social outing with fantastic food, I give in. And that's fine, because this food plan is about a lifestyle, not a diet.

On the Health Resources page, I've included many links that may help strengthen your resolve to eat for your health. Read the books, watch the videos and get the healthy truth into your spirit! Also try the tapping exercises below.

The Skinny on Weight Loss

Finding success in healthy eating comes from developing the following skills:

1. Willingness and ability to pay attention to your ongoing stress.

2. Educate yourself on food/nutrition facts and develop a strong conviction.

3. Find a tribe who supports your new lifestyle.

4. Make your eating plan a lifestyle change.

5. Plan your meals ahead of time so that it becomes a habit.

5. Identify your "whys". Why do you want to lose weight?
